Brochures
Students completed our non-fiction reading and writing unit with a fun activity. Students created their own brochures on their chosen topic. Students read non-fiction books about weather, animals, aliens, the arctic, the tundra, mountains, and many others. After reading books students wrote down information they gathered from their book. Students then wrote down five topics to focus on and 3-5 bullet points to go with each topic. Students enjoyed having the freedom to create their brochure however they wanted with sentences, bullet points, picture boxes, definitions, and diagrams. We loved sharing our brochures with classmates and cannot wait to share them with family and friends!
Future Voters
Second graders celebrated election day by creating their own ‘I Voted’ sticker. Students spent the beginning of this week learning what voting is. We learned the importance of voting and speaking your mind not only in the classroom, but in the world. We loved seeing the stickers our future voters designed!
Reading
This week students moved into our new reading unit all about reading comprehension. While we always talk with the class about what they are reading; this unit focuses on students reading and answering questions about their text independently. Reading comprehension is a vital part of our literacy. Our goal is for students to understand the meaning of the words and sentences, use information they already know to make sense of the text, and be able to keep track of the text while they are reading. Students are learning how to read information, answer questions and put their thoughts onto paper using their own words!
