Winter Solstice
This week, Kindergarteners had the opportunity to learn about the Winter Solstice. Students learned that this day is the longest day and shortest night of the year. We talked all about how this day is a celebration of longer days to come. Students loved finding connections between winter solstice and their holiday traditions, including trees, ornaments, and lights! Students loved getting to show off what they knew about the holidays they’ve been learning about at our Holiday Extravaganza!
Ornament Addition
We added a little festivity to our fun learning this week! Students loved playing a new game that involved decorating their own Christmas trees. With a partner, students rolled a die to decide how many of their own ornaments to add to the tree. Once their partner rolled and added their own, students worked together to add the numbers together! We loved getting to see kids show off their math skills!
Community Building
In the spirit of the season, Kindergarteners had several older peers stop by our classroom this week. We were honored to have 4th graders join us to partner up and teach a Cooper School tradition, finger weaving! Kindergarteners could not get enough. We were also excited to welcome 3rd graders this week for Holiday reading buddies. With older friends, Kindergarteners shopped through our holiday collection of books to read in a cozy spot in our classroom!
