Polar Animals
Second graders have officially begun their Polar Biome project! After learning what animals live in the polar region students got to choose what animal they would like to learn more about. Each student wrote a persuasive statement to us on why they would like to learn more about the animal of their choice. Students spent the rest of their week doing research on school appropriate websites and by reading books. Students learned their animals’ habitat, appearance, prey, predators, adaptations to their environment, and fun facts!
Hurricane Helene Letters
We are all devastated by the effects of Hurricane Helene. As a community The Cooper School has stepped up by collecting donations and volunteered their time to help those affected. Our students have also stepped up in their own way. Second graders took their time to write letters and send shine to students in North Carolina that were affected by the hurricane. We are so proud of our second graders and their positive letters to uplift our neighboring communities!
SSR
Fridays are especially fun for second graders! Every Friday students participate in Silent Sustained Reading (SSR). SSR is a time for students to get cozy with a school book or book from home and practice their reading skills while growing their love for reading. Our goal in second grade is to complete 45 minutes of SSR! Students enjoy working together and filling in our reading meter, we are currently at 20 minutes of SSR! After successfully completing 20 minutes of silent sustained reading, students will try 25 minutes!
