Happy Holidays!

To keep it short and sweet – we wish you the happiest of holidays and the most relaxing few weeks spending time with friends and family. The Middle School team is so grateful for each and every one of you and your support. We couldn’t do it without y’all!

Have a wonderful break!

Math:

This week, 5th grade mathematicians began their 5th unit on decimals and decimal operations. We started off strong by exploring decimal place value, comparing decimals, and rounding decimals. When we return from break, we’ll dive into decimal operations like adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing.

ELA:

5th grade readers dove into the world of nonfiction reading this week – reviewing the various “text structures” and how authors choose to present increasingly complex information! Readers also brainstormed the topic of study they will read and report on after break. We did a small study of prepositions and will pick grammar study back up after the holidays with a test on 1/15.

When we return, students will begin reading their own nonfiction text from which they will be pulling main ideas and details to construct their own “pocket guide” books.

Social Studies:

Fifth grade had a fun time learning about other North American countries. They created a presentation on a country they chose and they came out great! When we come back we will begin South American geography as well as countries. Have a great holiday!

Science:

Fifth graders learned more about how our immune system works this week! They also picked one disease that changed history to research and learn how it impacted our society. The fifth graders also presented their work about keystone species this week. When we return from break, they will begin brainstorming ideas for their microorganism project, where they will learn how to inoculate a petri dish to see which location in the school has the most “germs.”
