Math:
This week in Algebra 1, we took our unit 4 test, then briefly dove into our unit on exponential functions by analyzing patterns of growth and decay. When we return from break, we’ll explore exponential functions and how we can apply them to real life scenarios like interest, growth, and decay.
ELA:
8th grade transitioned to literary essay work this week, developing To Kill a Mockingbird thesis ideas that evoked wonder and interest in readers. They also participated in a timed writing simulation in preparation for entrance exams, with feedback and workshopping of their work shortly after. Students reviewed prepositions as an extension of our grammar study.
After break, essayists will develop their first drafts based on their thesis work from this week. We will continue grammar study with a test planned for 1/16.
Social Studies:
The eighth graders finished up our discussion on the negative impacts of nationalism and the ideas seen prior to 1900. When we return from break we will begin imperialism as well as industrialization and how it impacted WW1. Have a great break and I will see you all next year!
Science:
Eighth graders learned about ocean waves this week! They learned about special locations where waves can create energy that gets transferred mechanically through the ocean. The eighth graders also presented their projects about plants that changed history. When we come back from break, they will finish their waves unit and then begin brainstorming on what they would like to do for the science fair!
