It’s been an exciting week here at TCS! Leading up to winter break, students have had the opportunity to learn about different cultures and holidays that take place this time of year. Not only have students gotten to learn and be exposed to other cultures and traditions, but they’ve also gotten to take it into their own hands and teach others about their chosen holiday! Each class has been preparing for the Holiday Extravaganza, brainstorming how to translate the symbols associated with their holiday into a craft or activity for everyone to participate in during the celebration! The fourth grade class picked decorating ornaments as their activity and have been researching the origins of Christmas and the symbols associated with the holiday. They can’t wait to share it with the rest of TCS’s students at the Extravaganza!
Math
This week, students have been building on their understanding of place value when working with decimals. Now that the class has an understanding of the tenths & hundredths places, they are working on place values of whole numbers. Students have been working on comparing numbers quickly by identifying digits in the hundred thousands and ten thousand places. Not only does this build their understanding of place value, but also grows confidence in working with large numbers, a skill we will continue to build upon in the coming months!
Writing
TCS students had the opportunity to meet their pen pals at Meeting Street Academy this week! 4th grader’s had a blast getting to meet the MSA 4th grade classes and take a tour of the school facilitated by MSA’s ambassadors. Students got into their buddy groups and made posters to represent themselves as a group. Our students were thrilled to find that they had many commonalities with their buddies and enjoyed getting to know each other face to face. They enjoyed getting to observe the many ways MSA enriches their students, as well as building community outside of TCS. MSA’s students are also studying the Revolution, and we will reunite for a joint field trip in the coming months.
