One Word
Kindergarteners kicked off the New Year this week by talking about goals for the year! It is a TCS tradition to take part in the One Word project, setting an intention to make 2025 our best year yet. After reading One Word for Kids by Dan Britton, Jimmy Page, and Jon Gordon, students began to do the hard work to choose a word to improve their year. We loved getting to hear Kindergarteners consider harder parts from the past year while focusing on the positive and how to improve it in the future! We know this will be our best year yet!
Polar Biome
This week, we kicked off our newest science unit, our Biome Study! With the cold weather we faced this week, we found it only appropriate to begin with the Polar biome. Kindergarteners looked at living conditions of the biome and how it affects both the flora and fauna that inhabit it. Kindergarteners also started applying what they know about clothing to decide the best type of clothing to wear to protect themselves in the climate!
Avid Readers React
Kindergarteners have been busy investigating what Avid Readers look like and the things that they do. They discovered that Avid Readers read a LOT and find places EVERYWHERE to read! They keep a stack of books waiting to be read and can hardly STOP reading because they are so focused. This week, they built on their understanding of what it means to be an Avid Reader by noticing that Avid Readers allow their hearts and minds to grow as they read, learning from and responding deeply to a text. These brave readers spent the week reacting with all kinds of emotions to a variety of nonfiction texts during our reading time!
