Hello March!

Coins and Cash

Second graders have been excited to learn the value of money and how to add and subtract with coins. This week students learned how to identify the different coins and their values. Students know what a quarter, dime, nickel, and penny are. We know that a dollar is worth 100 cents and we know the different ways to make a dollar with coins. Second graders can confidently solve word problems that include adding and subtracting coins just like if they were purchasing something in real life. We’ve been enjoying how excited second graders have been during this unit and are excited to continue to watch them grow!

Reading & Writing Poetry

The time has come for Second graders to read and write poetry. This week we introduced poetry to the class. Students have begun looking and listening to different structures of poetry. They are using their previous knowledge and applying and growing their poetry brains. They will use the information they are reading and learning more about to apply to their writing skills. We can’t believe we are already nearing the end of the year and beginning preparation for our annual poetry presentation, Pass It On. Second graders are so excited to begin our poetry study and start diving into different poetry books!
