Joyful Third Graders!

What’s Your Area?

In Math this week, third graders learned about area concepts and related areas to multiplication and addition. Third grade mathematicians can describe area as the number of unit squares that cover a figure. They worked this week on creating and measuring different shapes based on the number of square units they had.

Read to Learn!

We started a new unit in Reading this week, Reading to Learn. After revving up their minds, students looked at different non-fiction books. They previewed the text, looking at the table of contents, headings and main ideas to form a hypothesis on what the book will be about. They know that when reading nonfiction, readers pause along the way to summarize important information so that they take in and remember what they read.

Self-Regulated!

We finished up our Social Emotional Learning unit on Self-Regulation. We are so proud of our class and the community they have become. Third graders are calming themselves down if needed, grounding themselves to push through and using kind words when dealing with conflict. This is a life long journey but we are happy to be on the right path.
