Lights, Camera, Action!

We’ve had a jam packed week here in our 4th grade classroom!

Science

As we move through the parts of the human body, this week’s exploration has focused on joints, tendons, and muscles! Students have been learning how these vital parts of our bodies help us move. They found that joints act as hinges for the body, tendons connect muscles to our bones, muscles contract and relax during movement. Students had a chance to see this in action through creating models of arms and legs to investigate the way muscles, tendons and bones interact during both movement and relaxation.

Writing

Our fourth graders have been hard at work authoring letters to their pen pals at Meeting Street Academy. Students are mastering the art of conversational writing, sharing about themselves and what’s going on at Cooper School, as well as asking questions about their penpals’ lives. In addition to the partnership, students got a lesson on what vital parts make up a formal letter and how to address envelopes. The letters are ready to be mailed and students are eager to receive replies!

Drama

It’s a very special week here at the Cooper School! Charleston Stage is here for two weeks to workshop theater exercises with students. Our fourth graders had a wonderful time getting their wiggles out, and learning how to convey scenes and emotions using only one of Charleston Stages tools, voice, body and imagination, at a time.
