Student-Led Conferences
This week began with a very special time in our classroom as parents were welcomed in on Monday and Tuesday for self assessments. We hope you were able to spend meaningful time looking through your child’s portfolio together and reflecting on all of the growth that has taken place this year. These conferences gave students a chance to take the lead in sharing their progress, celebrate their strengths, and talk about areas where they are still working hard. It is powerful for children to see how much they have learned over time and to begin thinking about future goals. We are so proud of everything they brought to this process.
Little Big Things Poetry Museum
Our schoolwide poetry unit is now underway, and our classroom has been full of beautiful student writing. This week, students read and wrote poetry while exploring how ordinary objects can hold deeper meaning. They worked on creating poems that go beyond what something is and begin to capture the feelings connected to it. We have filled our room with student authored poems, and it has been exciting to see their voices and creativity shine through. Soon, students will begin bringing in small mementos for our poetry museum, which may include anything from nature or any small object that carries emotion and meaning.
May the Force Be with You
We also launched our new science unit on motion and matter this week. Students began by exploring magnetic force and gravity through hands-on activity and observation. They made predictions, and noticed how forces can cause objects to move or change direction. This new unit is already sparking curiosity and excitement as students begin to think like scientists. We look forward to building on these first discoveries in the weeks ahead.
