Social Studies
This week, third grade has continued to dive into government and learn how different committees work together to ensure the government runs with checks and balances. Students have been hard at work creating and debating the newest bill for our nation! Third graders are hoping to pass a bill that ensures fair teams at recess. Through thoughtful discussions, students are learning what makes a bill worthy of becoming a law while also exploring the true meaning of “fair.” We have loved watching students share their ideas, listen to different perspectives, and work together throughout this process. Soon, third graders will send their bill to our president, Miss Kelly, and eagerly await to see if it will officially become a law!
Show and Tell
We have had such an exciting week of show-and-tell in third grade! Students have absolutely loved learning more about their classmates’ special interests, meaningful items, and even fluffy pets! Third graders have asked thoughtful questions and listened with amazement as each student shared. We have seen everything from amazing LEGO creations and well crafted slideshows to favorite souvenirs from vacations, parents’ childhood mementos, and so much more. It has been such a joyful way to celebrate each student and the unique things that make them special. We cannot believe we only have one more week with these wonderful kiddos!
Finance
Financial literacy is an important part of third graders’ development, and students have jumped headfirst into the world of budgeting, savings accounts, writing checks, and making smart money choices. This week, third grade spent time planning amazing parties while staying within a budget. Students had to carefully plan for decorations, food, entertainment, and party favors. They quickly learned the importance of having an emergency fund when disaster struck and the cake for the party was dropped! Through this activity, students discovered that budgeting means planning ahead for emergencies and making thoughtful choices about when to spend or save money. Ask your student what they have chosen to save their money for in the future!
