Mother May I

Third grade had a wonderful week cherishing our moms, appreciating our teachers, accomplishing goals, feeling proud and grateful! Here are some of our highlights!

Walking Through History

This week, third grade took an exciting field trip to the Charleston Museum to learn more about Gullah Geechee culture. A museum historian guided us through a discussion about the community’s history, language, and traditions. Students then stepped into the museum’s classroom to examine real artifacts, acting as young historians themselves! They asked thoughtful questions, made inferences about who might have used each item, and discussed the historical significance of what they saw.

Once Upon a Classroom

Back in the classroom, we’ve started our Fairy Tale unit in both reading and writing. Students are diving into beloved classics and modern adaptations, paying close attention to the elements that define this genre, like magical creatures, tricksters, far off lands and much more. Our classroom library is full of fairy tales from around the world, and students are already buzzing with ideas for their own imaginative stories.

Big Hearts

This week third graders made heartfelt Mother’s Day cards for Lowcountry Warrior Mamas, a local organization that supports mothers of critically ill children at MUSC Children’s Hospital. Our students’ handwritten notes will be included in gift bags delivered this weekend, small but powerful reminders that someone is thinking of them and wishing them strength and love.
