One Word At A Time

Reunited and if Feels So Good!

One Word

Happy New Year, families! It felt really good to be back together this week. There was a calm, steady energy in the room that made it feel like we’re starting 2026 on the right foot. One of our favorite TCS traditions is choosing a “One Word” to guide us through the year. Instead of making resolutions we may or may not stick with, we choose one word we can return to again and again; like a little anchor or compass when things feel tricky, uncertain, or even when things are going well and how do you see yourself right now? What feels like it’s working for you at school? What would you like more of this year, and where are you hoping to grow? Students shared thoughtful ideas and began trying on possible words, practicing how to explain the “why” behind their choice.

Asia

In Social Studies, we started our Asia Study! We began by zooming out and locating Asia on a world map, reviewing the continents, and noticing where Asia is in relation to where we live. Then we started learning about a variety of biomes found across Asia. Students were curious as we learned about where the different biomes lie in Asia and how they connect and transition with each other. Students were excited to learn and locate all the countries in Asia.

Reading

In Reading we began our new unit focused on Asian folktales. We are reading traditional stories from different parts of Asia and learning to notice the special features folktales often include, like lessons or morals, strong character traits, and how the setting influences the story.  Students will practice identifying the moral or lesson and using details from the text to explain their thinking. It’s a wonderful way to grow comprehension skills while also learning about the rich storytelling traditions connected to our Social Studies work.
