Poets in the Making
Students are digging deeper into poetry each day. In addition to writing their own poems, they are reading and exploring works from a wide range of poets. As they read, students are paying close attention to how poets use line breaks, carefully chosen words, tone, and powerful ending lines to illuminate the main idea of a poem. By studying these elements, students are gaining a stronger understanding of how poetry communicates meaning. They then apply these ideas to strengthen their poetry, experimenting with language and structure to express their thoughts and feelings.
Fantastic Fractions
Third grade mathematicians wrapped up our math unit on fractions this week. They spent a lot of time and worked hard to understand how to partition number lines into equal parts, compare fractions, find equivalent fractions, and recognize that fractions are parts of a whole unit. Students loved learning about fractions and began noticing them in their daily lives. These mathematicians showed great perseverance and curiosity throughout the unit, and their excitement for learning continues to shine.
Cooper Clusters
Students enjoyed a fun and creative day of Cooper Clusters this week. With St. Patrick’s Day just around the corner, Cooper Kids are eagerly anticipating a visit from mischievous leprechauns. In hopes of catching one, students from all grade levels worked together to design beautiful and tricky leprechaun traps. Third graders helped create leprechaun hotels, clever trap doors, sparkling pots of gold, and cozy spots that might invite a leprechaun to stop and relax. Students used their STEM skills to design, engineer, and build these amazing traps as they worked together on their creative designs. We are hoping our students are lucky enough to catch a leprechaun on St. Patrick’s Day!
