This was an exciting week for us! From diving into science projects, to field trips to Hampton Park, to a few harmless pranks (like sending the entire 7th grade to Ms. Riley!), it was a week full of energy and fun and learning. Plenty of hugs and “see you laters” were shared as we head into the break.
I hope next week brings lots of rest, laughter, and quality time with family. We look forward to seeing everyone back in a week!

ELA: 7th graders enjoyed getting to know our Rabbit heroes in Watership Down this week. We pondered the conflict that shapes the rabbits’ story while also keeping naturalist journals of flora and fauna encountered in the novel! It was so special to read outdoors together at Hampton Park and make some live journal entries there. 7th grade also practiced punctuation, handwriting, and spelling with dictation exercises. We plan to test these skills after break on 4/17.
After break, 7th grade will continue their reading and journaling, digging deep for possible allegories hidden behind the story! We’ll also do lots of grammar review so they are prepared for their dictation test.
Science: This week in science 7th grade started exploring the periodic table of elements. Students discussed the parts of an atom, how the periodic table of elements is arranged, and the information that we can learn about each element from the periodic table. After Spring Break we will continue to explore elements and how they interact to get the substances we use everyday.
Social Studies: Seventh grade finished their work on Antebellum America. When we return we will work on the Civil War and reconstruction. This unit will work with the information we have learned about the cause and go into how we finally ended slavery with the 13th Amendment. Have a great break!
Math: This week in math, the 7th graders began unit 7 – my personal favorite unit to teach this grade. This unit dives into the laws of exponents and uses exponents to represent really big and really small numbers. This week specifically, we learned about and mastered the different laws of exponents before we move into using them to write in scientific notation after we return from Spring Break.
