Going into May, it is amazing to see just how fast this year has gone by! With the nice weather fast approaching and the end of the year on the horizon, I always take time at this point of the school year to look back and think of all we have accomplished. The middle school has done so much and each grade has been able to put their own stamp on this school year. We all enjoy this time where we start to wrap up units, tests and projects and even ERB testing, so we can focus on the fun things like class trips, field day and the signing of year books! I hope for the end of the year we can all look back and reflect on just how magical this year was and I hope the students always remember the friendships and memories they have been able to make!

ELA: This week in ELA, 7th graders continued to follow the rabbits of Watership Down into the treacherous community of Efrara. We continued to treat the novel like a rich nature walk, documenting new species of animals and birds from the novel in our nature journals. Students completed a vocabulary test on Thursday, and should have a test grade in their take home folder.
Next week, 7th graders will finish Watership Down and take part in two Harkness style discussions of the novel’s themes. We will begin a major year-end review of vocabulary and grammar, as well.
Science: This week in science 7th graders finalized their science fair reports and started their project boards. Next week they will put the finishing touches on their boards and practice their speeches in preparation for the science fair on Friday.
Social Studies: Seventh grade is wrapping up our final unit on the Civil War. We will be taking our final test next Friday on the unit. We also did work on our research papers! Next week we will continue with the papers, diving deeper into how a historical paper is written and I will be working with them individually to give them guidance going forward.
Math: This week in math, the 7th graders began their final unit of math which will introduce the Pythagorean Theorem. We started by exploring squares and square roots, the area of squares and triangles, and how we can use those to derive the equation for the Pythagorean Theorem. Next week, we’ll apply and practice both the Pythagorean Theorem and the converse before applying it to a coordinate grid.
