It’s been a quiet week on campus without 5th and 6th grade, and now that they’re back, 7th and 8th grade are off on their adventures. School trips were always some of my favorite experiences growing up. I still remember my 8th grade trip to DC and a high school trip that felt a lot like Jekyll. I always came home knowing a few classmates a little better, carrying great memories, and feeling even more excited about school. Hearing 5th and 6th graders share stories from their trips over the past few days has been so fun, and I know they’ve made memories that will last a lifetime.

ELA: After ERB testing, 7th grade spent some afternoons in ELA finishing Watership Down and their nature journals. We learned how to prepare for collaborative discussions like Harkness Circles – which they will see in 8th grade and many high schools around Charleston. We applied text gathering and questioning strategies to small group discussions around Watership. We will soon be “invited to the table” for a large group Harkness style discussion after our DC trip!
Science: 7th graders crushed their ERBs this week and headed off on their DC adventure! After they return next week we will how atoms come together to make molecules that can react with each other.
Social Studies: After ERB testing, we continued working on our research papers. Next week we will finish them up – editing and working on creating a works cited page.
Math: I am so excited to hear all of the wonderful stories of the DC trip when the 7th graders return next week! I remember my middle school DC trip – and I still have so many fond memories! Next week, they’ll finish up their final unit in math with their test on Thursday!
