Short & Sweet Week In Second Grade!

Parts of a Whole

This week second graders learned all about fractions! Students learned that shapes can be partitioned into 2, 3 or 4 equal parts called halves, thirds and fourths/quarters. Students practice partitioning shapes in different ways to help them identify the importance of each piece being equal parts to become a fraction. We enjoyed working with fractions by thinking of pizza slices!  Second grades know that 2 halves, 3 thirds, and 4 fourths all equal a whole!

Finalizing Cooper Village

We are almost finished with Cooper Village and second graders are shaking with excitement to share their hard work with friends and family! This week students focused on their jobs for the community and chose to create a service to offer or a product to sell. Students that chose to create a service to offer designed a poster to share with the community. They made sure to include the price of the service and a phone number you could reach them at. Students that chose to sell a product designed a sign for the product and created the product from recyclable materials. If you chose to sell a product you had to make sure you included a clear label of what your product was and the price! Once all services and products were created students attended Cooper Village Market! Community members sold their product and service while also purchasing other community members product or service! We love Cooper Village!
