Parts of a Bird
Second graders are continuing their exploration of birds. They are beginning research on their own bird. This includes researching on teacher-selected websites about different parts of the bird. Each day, students learn about a part of the bird that is specific to their type of bird. They research and collect information for their presentations. After collecting all their data for that part of the bird, students use their typing skills to include this information in their PowerPoint. Students are working on the skill of reading nonfiction information, gathering research, and putting their findings into their own words.

Book Authors
In our final writing unit, second graders are writing their own realistic fiction stories! Students are creating their own story from the inside out instead of beginning to end. First, students decided the genre of their story, then built their main characters, supporting characters, and then the setting. Second graders went into detail to explain the appearance of their main character(s) and their personality and characteristics. It is exciting to see second graders’ creativity shine and build their realistic fiction story as they go. The goal of this unit is to help students focus on the details in characters, setting, and supporting characters to teach them how important these roles are in building a story.

Choir Performance
Congratulations to our second graders for an outstanding choir performance! We loved seeing students’ confidence shine through as they gained more experience performing on stage! Second graders have been practicing these songs for months, and it was amazing seeing them smile and sing proudly to their audience. Thank you to everyone who came out!
