It’s been an awesome week in middle school. Secret Santas, lots of laughter, and excited hallways made it a fun way to wrap up the year. Students have been finishing projects and units, and we can’t wait to see everyone in the new year and hear about their break!

ELA: This week in ELA, 6th grade began a research and nonfiction reading unit. Combining resources from complex nonfiction texts and trusted online databases. We formed groups and gathered information in our notebooks, discussing how our research pointed to main ideas that we could teach in a mini lesson.
After winter break, students will begin organizing their research into lesson plans for 3rd and 4th graders to participate in.
Science: This week in Science, our 6th graders observed living cells under the microscope, bringing the invisible world of cells into focus. Students examined both multicellular and single-celled organisms, using their observations to deepen their understanding of what makes something living. Along the way, they explored the differences between plant and animal cells, as well as between multicellular and single-celled organisms, building a strong foundation for future learning.
As we head into the break, I hope everyone enjoys time filled with rest, laughter, and curiosity. When we return, students will continue their exploration of cells and the fascinating systems that make up living things.
Social Studies: I hope everyone enjoys this holiday time! We are finishing India and China when we return to school. Have a great time with friends and family.
Math: This week in math, 6th graders will take their unit 4 assessment over expressions including exponents and parenthesis, which we will expand on when we return from break as we begin unit 5. In this unit, we’ll explore proportional relationships and use our previously mastered skills of unit rates, ratios, and expressions to help us learn about linear relationships.
