SLOW DOWN!
As I’m feeling full of gratitude (and food, and pie) after a much needed Thanksgiving Break, I’m reflecting on how much we all, including our students, can sometimes take these special times for granted. The older I get, the more I have to make a big effort to slow down and cherish the time I have with friends and family. So, with the next 3 weeks including busy schedules, calendars that look overwhelmingly full, quizzes, tests, and projects, I want to challenge all of us to SLOW DOWN!!! Enjoy the little moments with our friends, take a couple of deep breaths, and cherish all of the special moments this season brings.

Math:
This week, we spent a few days reviewing fractions and decimals before taking our assessment on Wednesday. Next week, we will dive into unit 4 which introduces variables, expressions and equations. We’ll explore diagrams that help us understand how to write and solve expressions and equations!
ELA:
This week, 6th grade writers revised and edited essays. We paid close attention to deeper elaboration by expanding our thinking with analysis that goes beyond just one sentence. Writers began the work of typing and polishing their writing for publishing next week. 6th grade transitioned back to vocabulary study this week, as well. They will have a test next week on 12/13.
Next week, 6th graders will publish their essays to finish the unit. Be sure to begin studying for next Friday’s test now!
Social Studies:
Sixth grade has finished up Ancient China this week, getting ready for their test this upcoming Thursday. Study guides were given out and were completed in class. All notes and other things to help study are on their google classroom. Before break we are going to a small unit on other Asian cultures and civilizations.
Science:
The sixth graders learned about the difference between abiotic and biotic factors and how they interact in an ecosystem. They considered and contemplated what makes a living thing ‘living’ by sorting through different objects. The sixth graders also started to present their keystone species projects to the class. They learned about otters, lions, arctic foxes, and more! Next week, they will continue to learn more about the diversity of life we have around us on planet earth.
Important Dates:
December 20 – Holiday Extravaganza & PJ Day (½ Day – 11:30 Dismissal)
December 21-January 6 – Winter Break (return on Tuesday, January 7)
