As I’m feeling full of gratitude (and food, and pie) after a much needed Thanksgiving Break, I’m reflecting on how much we all, including our students, can sometimes take these special times for granted. The older I get, the more I have to make a big effort to slow down and cherish the time I have with friends and family. So, with the next 3 weeks including busy schedules, calendars that look overwhelmingly full, quizzes, tests, and projects, I want to challenge all of us to SLOW DOWN!!! Enjoy the little moments with our friends, take a couple of deep breaths, and cherish all of the special moments this season brings.

Math:
This week, we spent some time using different solving strategies to master solving different types of equations and inequalities. Next week, we’ll spend some time reviewing this unit and then take our assessment on Tuesday, December 10th.
ELA:
7th grade selected contemporary authors to study this week. They began reading a novel from their selected author in order to prepare their final project – they will either write a chapter that imitates the author’s style or prepare a Powerpoint that breaks down the author’s writing style (due next Friday, 12/13). 7th grade began a vocabulary study, as well. Their vocabulary test will also be on 12/13.
Next week, readers will finish their projects and present to wrap up the unit. Be sure to begin studying for next Friday’s test now!
Social Studies:
Seventh grade has finished up the introduction to European colonization in the Americas. Their test will be this upcoming Friday. The study guide was given out and filled out in class. All notes and other information needed to study can be found in their Google Classroom. Before break, we will be doing a small unit on the impact of colonization on America and how its affects are still felt in today’s society.
Science:
Seventh graders had a great field trip to Francis Marion National Forest! They learned all about the ecosystem from an expert, Dr. Peters from College of Charleston. We called woodpeckers, found an owl pellet, and had a beautiful hike. The seventh graders also learned about the difference between abiotic and biotic factors in an ecosystem. They will continue to learn more about our local ecosystems next week when we visit Folly Beach and the Audubon Swamp.
