Spooktacular Week!

Third grade has been full of excitement this week as they continue learning, growing and preparing for Halloween!

Social Studies

Students are wrapping up their projects for the third grade’s annual changemakers presentation! As the project comes to a close, students have been compiling all of their research and adding their finishing touches to their timelines, research papers and speeches. From changemakers like Rosa Parks to activists like Jane Goodall, third graders are eager to share with others who these historical figures are, and how they’ve inspired them to help change the world. We are so excited to see it all come together!

Math

Our third graders have been diving into using new algorithms to solve problems. The class has been focused on mastering solving problems using expanded form by breaking numbers down into their place values, students are not only enhancing their understanding of how numbers work, but they’re also developing stronger problem-solving skills. For example, if they’re adding 43 and 29, students expand the numbers to 40 + 3 and 20 + 9, making it easier to see how they can combine the tens and ones separately. Having a deep knowledge of decomposing numbers and solving equations creates a solid foundation for our young mathematicians to become more confident and excited about their skills! We are so proud of them!

SEL

This week in social emotional learning, we are still focused on the importance of curiosity and how it can push us to gain knowledge and solve problems. The class has been discussing how staying curious helps us all ask important questions and uncover new discoveries about ourselves and the world around us, in a fun and engaging way. Curiosity helps engage us in trying new activities or skills, and not being afraid to ask questions. This can lead to understanding how the world around us works, as well as uncover connections with others who share the same interests. When asked what their wonders were during the morning meeting, students responded with curiosities ranging from what they would study in college to how we can help the environment with less gas consumption! Our third graders are truly learners full of wonder, and we could not be more proud!

TCS halloween carnival was a success, maybe the best ever! Students had a blast showing off their costumes and connecting with students across grade levels.
