We Found a Light
This week in science, we continued exploring our unit on light and sound, with a special focus on light sources. Scholars participated in both a classroom and outdoor scavenger hunt to discover different sources of light around them.Our first graders identified a variety of light sources, including lamps, candle warmers, cameras with flash, the sun, heaters, and many more. They were excited and amazed to see just how many everyday objects can produce light!Ask your scholar to share some of the light sources they discovered!
Measure it Up !
First graders were excited to wrap up our math unit on measurement this week! Scholars had a great time measuring objects around the classroom and comparing the sizes of different items. They learned that using the same-sized cubes is important for accurate measurement and showed strong understanding of this concept.Students also practiced problem-solving by figuring out how objects fit into different spaces based on their size. We are so proud of all their hard work! Ask your scholar to share what they learned about measurement!
Poetry
This week, scholars gathered for a whole-school morning meeting to celebrate and announce the winner of our Tribute Poem. Students from across all grade levels submitted heartfelt and inspiring poems in support of Wings for Kids.With so many incredible entries, it was a tough decision, but we narrowed it down to three finalists. Our scholars then voted to choose the poem that will be featured in our Pass It On book.We are excited to announce that this year’s Tribute Poem winner is Vivian Wamer from fourth grade! Our first graders were absolutely ecstatic for her and loved celebrating her big accomplishment.
