There’s definitely something magical about snow days. It’s like the world gets a pause button—everything slows down, the usual rush of life is muted, and for a little while, nothing matters except the moment. It’s the way the snowflakes fall, soft and slow, almost like they’re in no rush to land. The quietness that comes with it. You step outside and the world is different—clean, untouched. It feels like stepping into a whole new reality where you can leave behind the noise of everything and just be. Even when the snow starts to pile up, there’s something comforting about it, like the earth is wrapping itself in a blanket to rest for a while. Everyone seems to have the same unspoken idea—today, we take it easy. You see neighbors outside, maybe for the first time in a while, sharing a snow shovel or laughing over a snowman. Kids, of course, are fully in their element, chasing snowflakes and building forts, but even adults find that spark of playfulness again. The grown-ups who have been buried in work all year long end up finally slipping down a hill, or just standing in awe as the world changes before their eyes.
The snow outside is like nature’s way of saying, “Take a break. It’s okay.” While chaotic and sometimes scary, snow days give you a moment to step outside of the chaos and reconnect, either with yourself, your family, or even just the quiet of the world around you.

Math:
This week in Algebra 1, we dove deeper into exponential functions by understanding percent change in real life scenarios like compound interest and different compounding intervals. We’ll take our test over unit 5 next Tuesday, February 4th. Then, we’ll dive into quadratic functions and differentiate them from exponential.
ELA:
8th grade readers began reading their self-selected literary non-fiction novels this week, paying close attention to social commentary, implicit messaging, and explicit messaging woven through these true stories. We also continued grammar study of various subject verb agreement rules.
Next week, we begin to develop nonfiction synthesis posters based on our reading – this is our final project for the unit, due 2/20. Be sure to begin studying now for the grammar test next week on 2/6.
Social Studies:
The eighth graders are now finishing their work on the industrial revolution and have begun the scientific revolution. These two relate to the improvements of humanity and how they eventually turn us towards WW1.
**Their quiz is on 2/6. Study guides have been handed out and all materials can be found on Google Classroom.
Science:
Eighth graders learned how waves help us communicate! They experimented with optical fibers and lasers to observe how light travels in fibers underground to send our texts, messages, and more! They also started to work on their science fair experiments. Topics have been chosen, materials figured out, and timelines established. A materials list is being sent home today.
