There’s definitely something magical about snow days. It’s like the world gets a pause button—everything slows down, the usual rush of life is muted, and for a little while, nothing matters except the moment. It’s the way the snowflakes fall, soft and slow, almost like they’re in no rush to land. The quietness that comes with it. You step outside and the world is different—clean, untouched. It feels like stepping into a whole new reality where you can leave behind the noise of everything and just be. Even when the snow starts to pile up, there’s something comforting about it, like the earth is wrapping itself in a blanket to rest for a while. Everyone seems to have the same unspoken idea—today, we take it easy. You see neighbors outside, maybe for the first time in a while, sharing a snow shovel or laughing over a snowman. Kids, of course, are fully in their element, chasing snowflakes and building forts, but even adults find that spark of playfulness again. The grown-ups who have been buried in work all year long end up finally slipping down a hill, or just standing in awe as the world changes before their eyes.
The snow outside is like nature’s way of saying, “Take a break. It’s okay.” While chaotic and sometimes scary, snow days give you a moment to step outside of the chaos and reconnect, either with yourself, your family, or even just the quiet of the world around you.
I hope last week’s snow days allowed you to come into this week feeling relaxed, rejuvenated, and ready to take on the New Year!

Math:
This week, 6th graders dove into unit 6 – which expands our prior knowledge from unit 5, and applies it to more linear relationships and understanding proportional relationships. In this unit, we’ll connect rate of change, ratios, variables, equations, graphs, and tables together to help relate everything we’ve done in math so far this year!
ELA:
6th grade began deep who-what-when-where-why research this week around a myriad of youth and teen-related topics. All students engaged in ‘power-note’ taking in order to become expert investigators of topics ranging from teen skincare to young entrepreneurs. We also studied more verb concepts, preparing for a test next Wednesday February 5th.
Next week, 6th graders will begin organizing their research and drafting articles to eventually be included on a class news website! These posts are due for publishing by February 19th. Be sure to begin studying now for next week’s grammar test.
Social Studies:
Sixth grade have now finished our work on Hinduism and are preparing for their first quiz on India next Wednesday. Study guides have been given out and we are going over them in class. After Hinduism we will move onto Buddhism and present day India.

Science:
The sixth graders started to brainstorm for their biomimicry project. Partners have been picked and ideas are flowing. They learned about the concept of biomimicry and have started to research ideas for inspiration. The sixth graders also learned about transpiration by putting celeries in dye colored water. They will continue to work on their biomimicry project and learn more about plants next week.
