ERB Testing
This week, third graders have been hard at work taking the ERBs! We have been blown away by the perseverance and grit these kiddos have shown throughout the week. These comprehensive assessments provide students with a safe, low-stakes environment to practice important test-taking skills and show all that they know. Third grade has also enjoyed all the fun that comes along with ERB week, including a little extra time to play outside, a mint or two for encouragement, and our afternoon Mad Libs sessions. We are so proud of the focus, positivity, and determination our students have shown each day!
Gullah Geechee
Third graders discussed South Carolina culture and all that comes along with it this week. We have spent time learning about the importance of Gullah Geechee culture and the influence it has on our lives here in the Lowcountry. Students explored where this culture originated from and how the Sea Islands and coastal regions encouraged it to flourish. Third graders continued learning about early settlers, why South Carolina was desirable for settlement, and the injustices of slavery during that time period. These meaningful conversations have helped students better understand the history and cultures that continue to shape our community today. We are so excited to visit the International African American Museum next week to continue learning more about the cultures that surround us and influence our lives every day!
Practicing Perseverance
As we enter the final stretch of the school year, our SEL learning has shifted to focus on perseverance. Students attended a whole-school morning meeting centered around what perseverance looks like and how they can show it each day. This important skill of continuing to try, showing grit, and remaining optimistic about your abilities is such a crucial part of learning and growing. We have already seen our third graders demonstrate incredible perseverance throughout the year, and we are excited to continue encouraging these learners to apply this mindset each and every day as we finish the school year strong!
