A Sticky Situation: Designing Walls
Third grade engineers finished up their first science unit, ‘Designing Walls’. We started by reading a story in which a girl named Yi Min, living in China, explores the field of ‘Materials Engineering’ in order to build a wall to protect her garden from a hungry rabbit. Next, we discussed the properties of different Earth materials in search of an ideal mortar. Students were ready to follow the steps of the Engineering Design Process to imagine, plan, create, test, and then improve their own mortar mixtures and walls.
All the World’s a Stage
The Cooper School welcomed Charleston Stage this week. Resident actors from the famous Dock Street Theatre were here to get our class excited about using their acting tools; voice, body and imagination! There is nothing better than learning through play!
Our First Cooper Cluster
Cooper Clusters are another way we build community at TCS! Once a month we get into groups of all ages, eat lunch together and play group games on the playground. These groups stay the same all year and we get to watch beautiful new friendships grow.
