All About Asian Animals!
This week our third grade readers wrapped up their research book clubs on panda’s, elephants, and tigers. Through using their expert knowledge built over the last few weeks, students wrote and illustrated informational pamphlets showcasing each animal’s specific traits and what makes them unique! We are so proud of the hard work they’ve completed and can’t wait to see how they incorporate this knowledge into their final presentation.
Japanese Culture Experts!
As our Asia study continues, we are continuing to explore what makes Japanese culture unique. This week, third graders were thrilled to be able to talk to a guest expert. We had the privilege of talking with Setsuk, a Japanese interpreter from all the way in Japan. Setsuk was the tour guide for TCS staff on their trip to Japan last summer. Third graders loved learning about her experiences growing in Japan, and her favorite parts of Japanese culture. Students also got to learn about Miss Josie’s, Miss Maggie’s, and Miss Allison’s trip to Japan this summer! Students looked at pictures, small trinkets, listened to books, and got to ask all of their wonders about Japan. What a fun week of Japanese culture we had!
Dock Street Theater!
Students had the opportunity to attend a Charleston Stage play at the Dock Street Theater this week! TCS values and prioritizes students getting to have a multitude of learning opportunities through an array of experiences. Third graders loved getting to see “Last Stop on Market Street”, a musical adaptation of Matt de la Peña’s acclaimed children’s book. Along with the beautiful sets and musical numbers, the play focuses on themes like empathy, diversity, and community. We loved getting to hear students having conversations with one another about the importance and relevance of these topics in their own lives. Students also loved getting to see some of their Charleston Stage teachers from earlier in the year, live and in action!
