Math:
This week in Algebra 1, we took our test on unit 5 on Tuesday. Then, we dove into quadratic functions and differentiated them from exponential. Next week, we’ll continue exploring quadratic functions and take a quiz on Thursday.
ELA:
8th grade readers continued to compile information and analyze themes in their nonfiction novels this week. Readers used various note taking systems to reflect on historic, sociological, and other domain-specific topics brought up in their novels. They will use this information to create synthesis posters about their novels, which are due 2/20. Students also tested their grammar on Thursday, so be sure to look out for those grades.
Next week, readers will continue to read through their novels and start developing synthesis page concepts. 8th grade will switch back to a vocabulary study, with a test planned for 2/20.
Social Studies:
The eighth graders have done wonderful with industrialization and their work on the scientific revolution. Their projects came out well and I am proud of the work they put in. Our next unit will be on imperialism and how European countries ruling other nations were a key component of WW1.
Science:
Eighth graders worked diligently on the Science Fair this week! We have so much going on in the science room. Mascara, plants, heart-rate monitors, bacteria, ph-strips, mushrooms…it’s so fun! The eighth graders worked on background research and started to collect data as well. We are hoping to complete all procedures by the end of next week, so we can write conclusions and work on our boards. Thank you ALL for helping with material gathering!
