Bye Bye Butterflies!

Bye Bye Butterflies
Kindergarteners have been investigating the life cycle of butterflies with a focus on the incredible monarch migration to Mexico. Young scientists have been eagerly awaiting and observing as our butterflies completed their magical metamorphosis. At the end of last week, we were thrilled to find some of our classroom butterflies waiting to greet us, with beautiful wings ready to fly! After a couple more days over the weekend, and some time in The Cooper School green house, all of our butterflies were ready to begin their new adventures! Kindergarteners were thrilled to release our butterfly friends by sending them off with well wishes for their journey. These sweet friends thanked the butterflies for allowing us to observe them and sent them to fly the beautiful skies with words of love and kindness.

Kempton Retirement Village
This week, Kindergarteners went on their second field trip of the year to Kempton Retirement Village. Students took a short ride on The Cooper School bus downtown with excitement in the air. Using all of their reading skills and the help of the residents we were visiting, students completed a Pumpkin Glyph. Crafters followed directions to add each piece of their Jack-o-Lantern’s face, including stem, eyes, nose, and mouth! We loved watching as students brought smiles to residents’ faces as they shared all that they know about pumpkins as well as Halloween and pumpkin books!

Shapes, Shapes Everywhere!
Kindergarteners have had so much fun this week studying all of the shapes around us! Students have been so proud to share all that they know about triangles, rectangles, squares, circles, and even hexagons! Our Kindergarten counting skills have sure come in handy as we determine how many sides and points each shape is made up of!
