Cartographers of Fourth Grade

Photos Below: Students became cartographers in Social Studies this week when they studied maps of the city-states in Ancient Greece.

Social Studies: This week in Social Studies, our cartographers studied various maps of modern Greece and ancient Greece. They began labeling the major city-states and the surrounding bodies of water. They also created a Venn Diagram to compare the cultures of Sparta versus Athens. Fourth Grade scholars learned that the origins of democracy began in Athens. Scholars observed in their research that Sparta’s military strength was unparalleled in the whole of Greece.

Specials- Art : In Art with Miss Libby this week, Fourth Grade artists created drawings that displayed texture through multiple patterns in a landscape. Through the repetition of shapes within patterns, students designed unique creations that will be transformed with watercolor paint!

Writing Workshop:

This week Fourth Grade writers studied effective strategies for generating essay entries. One strategy is to take a person that matters to you and begin to list ideas about the person. From there, you are able to write about these ideas. Observe then write, “The thought I have about this is….” and let the writing spark new thoughts for later entries.  Writers learned that if we reread our earlier writing, we are able to ask more questions about those entries.

Reminder: If possible, please send your child to school with an extra mask in their tote bag. This allows for them to change into a clean one if their first mask gets sweaty during outdoor time.
