Caterpillars, Yoga, and More!

Science

Our scientists had a blast creating paper plate caterpillars! Students used a model to copy and create their own caterpillars.  We also used a Venn Diagram to compare and contrast butterflies and moths.  Students were great at observing the life cycles of the two insects and identified similarities and differences like experts!

Reading

Our scholars are learning about and practicing good reading habits!  Students have learned to take a sneak peek before reading a story, check their sneak peeks, do something at the end of a book, set goals, and read more and more.  We learned that after we read a book, we don’t just put it away or read a new book.  Instead, we reread a favorite part, reread the whole book, think about the story, or retell the story.  These are great skills to practice at home!

Math

We have just completed Module 1 of Eureka Math!  Student’s did a great job learning and using strategies for addition and subtraction within 10 and showing their understanding of the relationship between addition and subtraction.  Our next unit will be an introduction to place value using addition and subtraction with numbers up to 20.  Please click here for a Parent Tip Sheet for Module 2!

Yoga

This week First Grade had their first yoga lessons of the year. We are so thankful for this special time with Miss Courtney. It was a great way to get some movement on a VERY rainy day.
