Celebrating Eric Carle!!

Readers Celebrate Eric Carle!

Kindergarteners closed an exciting author study on Eric Carle by celebrating with first grade friends. Kindergarten readers have been enjoying time in Readers Workshop with Eric Carle books. Students have read his books, identifying list with a twist noting his unique and original book designs, while recognizing cumulative and circular tales. Kindergartners were eager to share their knowledge and collage inspired art with 1st grade friends as they lead them in an author celebration today!

Baby Chicks, Coming Soon!

Our young scientists will soon be discovering how to care for and iIMG_1200ncubate hen eggs in our classroom! Students observed a new and curious habitat in our classroom as they arrived to school this Monday. Our kindergarten friends were thrilled to find out that they will soon be the proud care takers for six hen eggs as  the eggs incubate and prepare to hatch. Over the next several weeks, students will investigate the parts of an egg, the chicken life cycle, and how to care for baby chicks! Stay tuned for more egg-cellent news!

Squashing ANTS!

During our Minds Up lessons this week, students discovered that sometimes when things feel challenging or scary, our brains might send A.N.T.s (automatic negative thoughts) to our minds. Kindergarteners shared times when they have experienced A.N.T.s (automatic negative thoughts). Students learned how to identify when they might be having A.N.T.s and discovered strategies for helping to “squash” those A.N.T.s. Once self-defeating talk is identified and eliminated, the hope is that students may overcome hurdles that could be stopping them from moving forward and doing their very best!
