On Tuesday, we hosted some very special visitors in our classroom! Alex and Gabby, from Charleston-based Jiminy Co., came to teach our students about what their company does: promote insect protein! They taught is
interesting facts about cultures that eat insects around the world and offered us cookies containing 25% cricket flour! Our intrepid scientists were not afraid to give them a try. Some brave students even tried whole, roasted crickets!

Our writers are making excellent progress on their nonfiction books! This week they learned how to plan their writing using chapter titles and a table of contents, as well as add important details to help their readers “make a picture in their minds.” These books are looking great so far. These first graders are experts on a lot of topics!

Parent Morning Meeting

On Tuesday morning, we invited all first grade parents into the classroom to share in our Morning Meeting routine. We had a full house, and had to move to a different part of the classroom to accommodate everyone! Nevertheless, we had so much fun teaching moms and dads how to do the greeting, share, and activity. We will have another parent morning meeting in the spring!
