Cool School

Chanukah
On Monday, the second day of DSCN0295Chanukah, we welcomed three First Grade parents into our classroom to celebrate with us. We read a story, listened to music, ate delicious latkes, learned about the menorah, and learned how to play with dreidels! The First Graders picked it up right away. In December we enjoy devoting time to learning about winter holidays that are celebrated inside and outside of our school community.
Writing Workshop

This week we started a brand new writing unit, focusing on opinion writing. Students brought collections of items to school, and we spent the week learning to judge a group of items and choose a favorite. We realized that it wasn’t enough to say, “this one is the best,” but we also needed to provide lots of reasons why. After writing about collections, students will move on to write reviews of books, restaurants, movies, vacation destinations, games, and more! Opinion writing really brings out the “writer’s voice” in young students, and it is a lot of fun!
Cool SchoolYOGA-2

The Cooper School was selected as News 2’s “Cool School” of the week this week! Filming took place on Wednesday, and provided us a great opportunity to discuss what makes The Cooper School unique, fun, and a great place to learn. In First Grade, we realized that we are very grateful for this special place.
