Lower Grade Buddies!
Your leaders were lucky to spend lots of time with lower grade buddies this week! We planned a recess with Third Grade to play “Still as a Rock”, we had movement with Fourth Grade friends, and lunch buddies and tinkering with Second Grade. These opportunities are so important for both groups. Spending time with the Fifth Graders is exciting for the younger grades and it promotes leadership in our Fifth Graders at the same time. Ask your child which buddy activity they enjoyed the most this week!
It’s that time again! During the month of December we gather as a whole school to learn about the various winter holidays that are celebrated in America. We study Christmas, Chanukah, Kwanzaa, Winter Solstice, St. Lucia, Las Posadas, and Tomkharit. Each year, we learn about these holidays through a common thread, such as music, food, or light. This year our common thread is symbols! So far this week, we have learned about the Christmas tree, the Las Posadas manger scene, and St. Lucia’s candle. Ask your child what they learned about these holidays.
We have a class of engineers! This week during tinkering, your scientists were charged with the task to move a marble from one side of the room to the other without using any muscle power. They worked with second graders to construct a device to move the marble. Some groups used rubber band power, some used gravity, and others used electricity. Ask your child how they solved this problem!
The Cooper School is participating with Pajama Program to donate new, unused pajamas to local 6-12 year old children in need of warm sleepwear during this holiday season! We are collecting pajama sets and nightgowns December 12-16. To find out more about about this incredible organization, please visit their website: www.pajamaprogram.org.
