Writing Buddies
Kindergartners were so excited to complete their “teaching books” this week all about topics they know best! Students illustrated their stories and stretched out the sounds of their words on the page. After working on their first writing projects, our class was excited to welcome 4th Grade writing experts into our classroom. The 4th Graders gave Kindergarteners tips and helped them find ways to say more in their writing! We love watching the beautiful bonds forming between Kindergarten and Fourth Grade Writing Buddies.

Animals 2×2
This week, students kicked off our Animals 2×2 Science unit by beginning our goldfish study. Kindergarteners welcomed new goldfish friends, Spaghetti and Meatball, into our classroom. Students have been so excited to observe them swimming in circles in their aquarium and to the surface of the tank at feeding time. Kindergarteners spent the week noticing and describing the structures of goldfish, counting their fins, and learning all about the way they use their gills. We were thrilled to the gills watching our curious learners discover new fish facts this week!

Vocabulary
Kindergarteners started their first Vocabulary unit this week. We began our first study with Edward the Emu, a fiction story using luscious language and rhyme patterns! Students have been amused discussing their words ‘gumption’, ‘detest’, and ‘amusing’. Students lit up our classroom and brought new words to life by acting out their fun vocabulary words, by reacting to foods that they ‘detest’ or  ‘snarling’ ferociously like lions. Kindergarteners also put their understanding of ‘mimic’ to practice in our new favorite classroom game, Mimic Chief, where students follow the leader in silent movement!
