Fantastic First Graders

Research with a Purpose

This week our Scholars have incorporated their curiosity skills with their research skills. Our First Graders know how to research with a purpose. Before beginning research, our students brainstorm questions they have that they hope to answer through their research. Our scholars have blown us away with their impressive questions and goal-oriented research skills.

Butterfly Symmetry

This week we discussed the definition of symmetry and how to find the line of symmetry. First Grade artists learned to paint & draw symmetrical butterflies during their insect study. Students started out using black tempera paint to draw one half of the butterfly. They folded over their paper to make a print on the other side of the paper. Once the paint was dry, they used chalk pastels to add color.

Ezra Jack Keats

Our First Grade readers have enjoyed our Ezra Jack Keats author study. We have loved immersing ourselves in the beautiful worlds he creates through his words and illustrations. Our First Graders have been able to identify and discuss setting, plot, and main characters in the stories they are reading.
