Science

This week our insect study got a lot more exciting with the introduction of live mealworms! These interesting baby insects might seem icky to some, but our young scientists were instantly fascinated. They observed their appearance and behavior with magnifying glasses, created small habitats for them, and I even overheard some of the mealworms getting names. Over the next several weeks, we will observe our mealworms as they grow and molt, and as they undergo metamorphosis into their adult stage. What will it be? We will have to wait and see!

Reading

During Reading this week, we have focused on snap word fluency to reinforce reading skills.  During Centers, we created snap work fortune tellers, which the students were really excited about!  They strengthened their receptive language skills by following step by step verbal instructions to create these and then they used them with peers to practice snap word identification.  This is something you can also do at home to practice weekly snap words!

Math

During math we are continuing to develop strategies for counting on to find missing addends.  We strengthened these skills by engaging in various activities such as a game called “Count On!” and Math Bowling.  Students loved bowling in class and did a wonderful job using this activity to sharpen their counting on skills.
