Third Grade Fun !!

Drama

Third Graders were excited to do drama this week! This year we had actors from Charleston Stage come to our school to work on presentation and dramatic skills. During these classes, students use their bodies, voices, and imaginations to create different scenes. Third Grade actors and actresses really enjoyed learning and playing engaging theater games. By practicing these theatrical skills, students are able to gain confidence when performing in front of an audience.

Vocabulary

Third Graders love learning new vocabulary words! Our Vocabulary Workshop works on a two-week cycle that introduces 10 new words in the context of a story or article. Students then work with, study, and explore those words in a multitude of ways, from direct instruction to reading, writing, acting, and drawing. By the end of the two weeks, students are familiar with the words and often begin to use them in their writing and speech.

Science

We are continuing with our Physics of Sound Unit! The students enjoyed sorting objects and coding them. We also played with tuning forks to hear different sounds and see how sound causes vibrations. We were able to see how the vibration of the tuning fork transferred to a ping pong ball and to a piece of paper.
