Fun Times In First Grade

Science

This week in science our scholars learned about wind. Students learned about wind directions and how wind direction is measured with a wind sock. Our scholars were focused on the question, “What makes wind?” Scholars came up with tons of answers to this question. We learned that warm air rises and cool air takes its place which causes wind. Ask your scholar what was their favorite part of science this week!

Writing

Our Authors worked really hard to write, edit, and revise their realistic fiction stories!  Authors first started with a fictional character.  They then thought about the setting, the trouble the character get into, and how the trouble is fixed.  Students wrote several stories about their character and then chose one to go through the entire writing process with.  This week, we finished our revisions and shared our stories in small groups.  Our Authors were full of compliments for their group members!

Math

We have had a lot of fun practicing our time-telling skills this week!  Our Mathematicians sharpened their time-telling skills by playing a game called “Race to Noon” during Centers and by creating a human clock!
