This week, Third Grade mathematicians took a dive into the wonderful world of geometry! Scholars spent the week investigating points, line segments, rays, and lines. They then explored the relations among segments, rays, and lines as well as the geometric figures that can be built from them including angles, polygons, and triangles. Students used straws and twist-ties to build and model concepts of geometry. They even participated in Calisthenics to practice clockwise and counter-clockwise turns! Thid Grade mathematicians conducted an on-going Geometry Hunt to locate examples of parallel line segment, lines, and line segments that intersect. Scholars looked around home and at school to find examples of right angles. It was an awesome week of discovery in Third Grade math!
Third Grade Opinion Writers spent the week preparing their letters, petitions and editorials and putting the finishing touches on their writing for our publishing party. Students were busy editing their work to be sure that their writing reflected all that they know about grammar, spelling and conventions. Third Grade writers spent time with their writing partners peer editing and going through our Opinion Writing checklist to find ways to revise and strengthen their writing. We practiced reading our work in front of an audience and feel ready to publish next week! Third Grade scholars have found their voice and are so excited to share these brave and bold opinions with you!
This week Third Graders got to participate in Movement Monday with a guest visitor, Mr. Eric Melanson. Third Graders learned an old favorite, Dodge Ball! They had a great time being active, dodging the ball, and cheering for friends. These friendly scholars showed beautiful sportsmanship and took every chance they could to encourage their classmates!
