Getting into the Holiday Spirit in Second Grade!

Empathy in our Classroom

This week for our S.E.L. unit students are learning about empathy. Second graders are learning about the meaning and understanding of having empathy at The Cooper School. In centers they are creating and decorating a shoe. They want to represent “walking in someone else’s shoe.” On their shoes students will write about when they felt empathy and when they have shown empathy. As well as the importance of empathy in our life.

Lighting the Menorah

In second grade we are learning about Hanukkah. This week Ms. Franci came into our classroom to teach us about lighting a menorah. The second graders learned all about the story and importance of the menorah for this Jewish holiday. Students were so excited to see the menorah all lit up for the eight nights of Hanukkah.

Winter Wonderland

Second graders have been working very hard on their snowflakes and now they are ready to be hung in our classroom! Students are creating mobiles using snowflakes! Using their knowledge of balance and motion, students are hanging their snowflakes to create a balanced mobile. These mobiles will be hung all around our classroom to create a winter wonderland!
