Happy Fall, 4th Grade!

SEL

Last week, we launched our new SEL unit: Optimism. We spent time seeing what the students already knew about being optimistic and updated our SEL wall in the classroom. We’re looking forward to watching 4th grade spread optimism throughout TCS and how we can all be intentional about recognizing it within ourselves! By the end of this unit, students should be able to answer the question, “What is something you can tell yourself to stay optimistic?”

Reading

As we slowly move through the beginning chapters of The Green Book, we are continuing to emphasize the importance of reading intensely with our 4th graders. This week, we asked them to identify new characters that were introduced and explain how their roles are important to the plot. 4th graders also got to get creative and draw an illustration of what they believe the setting of the story looks like. With fiery trees and sharp blades of grass, we know our artists are enjoying letting their imaginations roam.

Science

In our Astronomy unit, we focused on all things shadows: what causes them, how do they work, and where do they go? After searching for shadows within the walls of our classroom, we took our astronomers outside to analyze them on an even larger scale. Our 4th graders had fun working with their partners to see who could find the most shadows.
