Happy Pass It On!

Proud Poets
This week, students were eager for the opportunity to shine reading their Pass It On poems for an audience. Kindergarteners arrived donning their fanciest formal wear to proudly show off all of their new poetry skills. Leading up to this special day, students spent time practicing in partnerships, groups, and in front of the class to prepare for their big stage debut. These brave scholars have mastered projecting their voice and reading in front of an audience, which is pretty big work for a Kindergartener!

Persuasive Writing
Kindergarten writers have been busy writing up a storm in our persuasive unit! These writers have discovered the formula for sharing their opinions and convincing others. These young writers know that in order to convince someone, they need to give lots of reasons in their writing. Students collaborated on a shared writing to create a petition to help keep the backyard clean at The Cooper School. These young scholars were delighted to use their new knowledge from our study of the Yanomami people in the Amazon rainforest to write letters to different recipients asking for help to stop deforestation!

Consonant Digraphs Ch-, Sh-, Th- & Wh-
This week, Kindergarten scholars spent time investigating consonant digraphs ch-, sh-, th- and wh- during our phonics time. Kindergarteners practiced paying close attention to what their mouths do when they make these sounds. These great listeners played games listening for words with the blended sounds and then had to tell if they heard the digraph sound in the beginning, middle or end of the given word. Students showed off their knowledge by cutting and sorting pictures of different items starting with the appropriate digraph!
