Happy Spring Break!

Math

4th Grade mathematicians took their unit 6 test this week over multi-digit multiplication and long division! This felt like a quick unit, but was one of the most important units of 4th Grade. When we come back from the break, students will move into unit 7 and cover angles and angle measurements! They will learn how to use a protractor to measure angles, as well as analyze angles and solve for the missing measurements.

Reading

This week, 4th Grade finished the heart-tugging book, Heartbeat by Sharon Creech. This book is written in prose and tells the story of a young girl experiencing life-changing events like the birth of her younger brother and the loss of her grandfather to dementia. This book is always a wonderful way to kick off our poetry unit and its ending marks the beginning of their next mini-project, poetry muse!

Writing

Poets have been hard at work writing their own poems. During Centers, they have been getting inspired by listening to poems being read aloud to them, researching poets that interest them, and writing math poems such as ‘fractions of me’. Their writing lessons have inspired them to use personification, symbolism, and their senses to add excitement and meaning to their poems. The students voted on which charity they would like to donate to and they chose the Lowcountry Food Bank!
