The Cooper School Daily

Hello April!

We hope everyone had a wonderful spring break! We missed our first grade friends so much! This week we focused on reviewing routines, writing poetry, creating different sounds, verbs, nouns, adjectives, and much more!

Nouns, Verbs, Adjectives

This week first graders worked on identifying nouns, verbs, and adjectives. We know that a noun is a person, place, thing, or animal and a verb is an action word, and an adjective is a describing word. We enjoyed playing games to help us familiarize ourselves with nouns, verbs, and adjectives.

Finding the Right Pitch

First graders are experts at identifying loud and soft sounds. We know that volume of sound is how loud or how soft a sound is. We also know that sounds are created by vibrations. This week we learned about pitch. Students used xylophones to help them recognize a high pitch, low pitch, and medium pitch. We learned that a high pitch sound is created by fast vibrations and a low pitch sound is created from slow vibrations!

Poet’s Eyes

After a fun Spring Break students used their new experiences and memories to write poems of something they did over the break. We practiced using our poet’s eyes to think outside the box! We also practiced the importance of using repetition in our poems. Repetitions are used to emphasize a feeling or idea and create rhythm to a poem. First grade can’t wait to share their poems with you!
