Having Fun in Second Grade!

 Math

Our second-grade math brains have been hard at work!  We have been learning to count to 1,000!  Students have been grouping straws into bundles of 10 and then grouping them into bundles of 100.  Along with this engaging activity, children are also learning to count up and back with three-digit numbers. They are becoming quite the mathematicians!

Phonics

We have moved on from our Professor Phonics Words unit to now learning about homophones! While these are part of our “Trouble Maker Words”, students are starting to form an understanding of when we use certain words and why.  Through interactive activities, reading, and writing, we are confident we can tackle these tricky spellings and their meanings!

Social Studies

Second Graders are so excited to start our inuit study!  This week we have been studying our world, including the 7 different continents, 5 different oceans as well as latitude and longitude.  Our concentration is now on the polar biomes.  The class has been able to describe the weather of the Arctic and Antarctic and visually point out the Arctic circle including the continents that it encompasses.
